With the new year comes new trends in interior design. I spent time scouring the internet this morning to find some fun predictions to share with you guys. Here are my top 5 favs:
Wallpaper: Wallpaper and stenciling made a big splash in 2015 and that’s not expected to change in 2016. According to the Huffington Post though you will start to see more wallpaper in natural surface looks, retro geometrics, patterns that mix both metallic and mattes, and sweet pastels.
Black Stainless Steel Appliances: We all know that the “in” color of appliances changes every couple of years. The cute pastel appliances I get, while the off white, yellowy color of late 80’s appliances will never make sense to me! The current trend has been stainless steel appliances for quite a few years now, but it can be hard to maintain that shiny pristine finish. Elle Décor is predicting that sleek black stainless steel will be the new trend this year.
Formal Dining Rooms: If you’re considering turning your dining room into an office or media room both Elle Décor and Houzz suggest you may want to rethink that decision. Not only is entertaining in your home a must this year, but recommitting to sitting down and eating dinner with your family is expected to make a comeback too. So those dining rooms with a big table are a MUST!
Outdoor Fabric Used Indoors: Both my sister in law Marissa and my Mom were ahead of their times on this one. This year both Zillow predicts using outdoor fabric indoors on items such as rugs is expected to be big. Just think of how much easier this could make your life if you have kids or pets! Fabrics that are more durable and last longer? Yes please!
Mismatched Cabinets: Bold and textured cabinets have been becoming more and more popular. With this trend comes having mismatched cabinets in the kitchen. Both Elle Décor and Houzz think this will become more popular in 2016 as people are likely willing to go with a bolder cabinet if it’s paired with a more traditional cabinet so that it’s not overpowering.
